stitch jones liger
Deb: What are you drawing?
Napoleon Dynamite: A liger.
Deb: What’s a liger?
Napoleon Dynamite: It’s pretty much my favorite animal. It’s like a lion and a tiger mixed… bred for its skills in magic

Great American Afghan
On Tuesday I met a woman at Abundant Yarn in Portland, she teaches a class on the Great American Afghan. I mentioned that I was wanting to make this, but did not have a clue where to start out, so she gave me a few tips. First, I had to pick out my palette. You pick 5 colors that you like or that will go with the room you want to use it in. Then you pick 5 more colors to compliment those first 5. Then she gave me a schematic of the actual blanket so that I could use colored pencils and decide what I wanted my blanket to look like!

Sunday on the Oregon Coast
We went down to Newport on Sunday to see my dad for his birthday. On the way we stopped at Fogerty Creek State Park. It's not a place we've ever visited before and it's certainly not noticable when you're driving on 101.
I think it's going to be one of our favorite beaches from now on! It's gorgeous! The sand is actually granular and doesn't get in your shoes like most of the other beaches, there are cliffs and rock outcrops and a stream. It looks like a good wading beach on hot days too!
I didn't take any photos of the actual park, but on the other side of the highway there are picnic benches in case it's too windy to eat lunch on the beach! I'm so excited to spend a few more hours here to explore!!
For a really early bday present my dad gave Owen a kite, so on the way home we stopped to fly it and also take in the sunset in Newport!

handspun #9
This is my first handspun made on my first spinning wheel. It's gorgeous! It is a Merino combed top roving that I bought at Woodland Woolworks the day I bought my wheel. It spun up really fast and it is nice and soft, but dang it took a long time to ply it. Well it seemed like a long time. There are about 340 yards in this skein and it's 3oz and I have about 1 oz left to ply.

Surprise
Making something that sounded like a good idea at the time, now that I'm working on it, I am realizing that it's going to take a lot longer than I thought it would. While it's not a complicated pattern it's just time consuming! It takes forever to get one round done!!
