Trick or Treat

My little Sweet Pea had a fun time trick-or-treating. She got loads of candy (8 pieces), too bad she doesn't know what it is, or that it's yummy. Her little pumpkin bucket overflowed with snickers and kit kats (yay, my favorites) :)

M1 when you get to Chris

K2Tog at X&Y

Need I say more about these totally awesome Coldplay stitch markers that I made?

Ok, maybe I'll say a little bit more :)
They were very simple to make! I used shrinky dink plastic! First I got some Coldplay images from the internet, then I printed them out, cut them out, and then baked them. Then I made some wire loops, put on a bead and voila!

Bella's Scarf

Oy me vey! This scarf is killing me slowly!! I am making Bella's Baseball Scarf by Nancy Fry. It is inspired by the scarf Bella wears in Twilight. You make 9 rectangle pieces, fold them into parallelograms and then stitch the parallelograms together (with two triangle end pieces). Let's just say that the scarf looks better in pieces than it does put together. I am debating whether or not to just frog it all, or keep pushing through to finish it. You can see the un-evenness that is going on, and I'm going to have to block it within an inch of it's life and then maybe, and I mean maybe, it will look just ok. UGH! I hate when good projects go bad :(

Swallowtail

Swallowtail Shawl by Evelyn Clark
Yarn: Knitpicks Shadow in Snorkel
The only change to the pattern was to use beads instead of making nupps.

Yay, it's done! It took me less than 1 month to finish it and I thought it would take me 2. I really enjoyed working on this, the patterns were simple and did not bore me! Unfortunately, I won't be sporting this, because it's for my mom! I hope that she will be surprised to get a shawl for Christmas for the 2nd year in a row!! I hope she likes it. I think if I make one for myself, I would do the modifier to make it larger by adding more repeats. I found a thread on the swallowtail kal ravelry group that explains how many more repeats to do, and I think it is 19 of the first pattern.  This shawl did not take a full skein of yarn, in fact I had a quarter of  it left over.  I have 2 more skeins of this yarn to make another shawl, maybe I'll do an Aeolian from knitty.

Oregon Heritage Farms

The weather has done a 180 here, from inches of rain yesterday to blue sky and sun today! We made use of the clear weather to head out to our favorite Apple farm - Oregon Heritage Farm . When Hazel is a little older, she can jump in the inflated apple and go on hay rides, but this year we just posed on the trailer.

No trip is complete without a caramel apple, buying some honey crisps and 2 gallons of their fabulous cider!

Cutest Pumpkin in the Patch

Hazel had a great time at the Pumpkin Patch. It was pretty cold and windy and I think she braved it very well!! Better than her dad! It was so fun posing her with the pumpkins.

We even found a Hazel-sized pumpkin :)

Just like mom!

Yay, she loves Coldplay!!! I was watching a Coldplay special that I had recorded a few years ago and Hazel was in her exersaucer. She was just staring at Chris and then she would bounce up and down and do her "singing". It was so cute!!

Bronze

I think I have a thing for bronzed statues of old guys when I'm wearing my pink "rocker" t-shirt in mid-October. So, next year, I should find a bronze statue of a guy starting with the letter C.

This is me and Ben

This is me and Albert last October a year and one day ago!

You can read more about my day on Tami's blog, she did a great job running down what we did (and I"m too tired and lazy to write it down)

Catching Butterflies

Imagine this: Billions of butterfly shaped confetti exploding a rainbow into the air and then gently fluttering down to the ground, all while Coldplay are playing one of their tunes to thousands of screaming fans.

Well, it's really hard to imagine if you're not there, in the moment and it's happening to you.

I only wish I had been able to go to their concert when they were here this past July. Sadly, I was recovering from a c-section and taking care of my beautiful baby. On the day of the concert I allowed myself to be disappointed, because I really really really wanted to be there myself! The last time they came out to the PNW was in August of 2005 and it was hands down THE BEST concert I have ever been to. U2 comes in second.

I had won VIP tickets from a local radio station by singing "Yellow" with ice cubes in my mouth to an answering machine. I won, because of my "humor" - I had dropped an ice cube on the floor while I was stating my name and phone number and then I said "I just dropped an ice cube on the ground and it is covered in cat hair, and I don't care because I love Coldplay that much!" and I then I put it in my mouth and sang the song. The next day they were going to announce the winner and I got up early so I wouldn't miss their call. I KNEW they would call me and 5 minutes til they announced, my phone rang!! It was my allergist reminding me of my appointment. Darn! I hung up and my phone rang again. It was Nelson and Terry telling me I had won tickets!! I screamed and probably blew their eardrums out! It was so surreal talking to them, I don't know exactly what I said to them because I was so excited and talking a mile a minute. Anyway, the tickets were not far from the stage (wayyyyy better than the seats I had paid for) and we got VIP parking with our own special entrance to the venue. I didn't get to meet Coldplay, but that's ok, I had the best night with my friends and I won't forget that.

I digress.

So, the next best thing to being there in person is knowing someone else who went to one of their concerts and lovingly sent me some butterflies and the free cd they were handing out at the end of the show! Oh, how I squeeeeeed when I opened the package from my friend Carol in the UK who went to not one, but 3 of their concerts this year and was kind enough to send me some goodies!!

Thank you Carol, you made my day!

A walk to remember

On Saturday, Owen, Hazel, my mom and I participated in a Walk to Remember for the Alzeimer's Network. We did this in honor of my grandmother who has dementia. It was down in Salem at their lovely waterfront park.

We also got to walk on their new pedestrian bridge that used to be a railroad bridge. That part was cool! We love bridges :)

I told Hazel when she gets a little older, she can ride on the real carousel that moves.
