I've been getting some knitting done, even if "the sweater" I've dragged around with me for 3 months is not getting done. More on that later.

One Skein Scarf by Denise Cozzitorto
Blue - Columbia Minerva Roma
Pink - Rowan Kid Classic
3 days to complete. Mods: Instead of the shell pattern, I ended up just doing a DC in each stitch around and 2 DC in each corner stitch. 1 extra row of DC in the pink.
Again, made for the BSD Project

My Crimson Green Jeans is slow going right now. Some time in September I had finished the back and one sleeve. I was about to start the second sleeve when I realized that the back was sucking in too far and that it needed to be redone. So, I frogged the whole cable rib section on the back, and started over with a 2 needle sizes larger. I"m liking the fabric a lot better, however it frequently goes into time out, because I'm so annoyed with having to reknit. Last week I started a new ball of yarn and as it happens it was from a skein that had more red dye in it and it was so obvious I ripped back 6 rows to start with a different ball of yarn. Thank goodness I'm almost done with the cable rib (just a few more inches). Then I need to do the 2nd sleeve and the button band.

Happy Birthday to me!
I had the most wonderful Birthday weekend!
It started on Thursday. My mom came up after work and babysat Hazel for the evening, so Owen and I could go to dinner! We went to the Melting Pot, my most favorite restaurant. When they seated us at our table, the gave me a birthday card and there were roses from Owen already on the table. We had a lovely California salad, Wisonconsin cheese trio fondue and a flaming dark turtle dessert fondue. With dessert they brought out a little plate that had my name written in chocolate, I thought that was a nice touch. I indulged and got a cocktail, it was so yummy, it didn't taste like alcohol (the kind of drink I like), it was a "Love Martini" (Love at first sip! Malibu rum, peach schnapps, cranberry juice and fresh strawberries). After all that we still had a little time before we had to be home, so we went to Voodoo. I ordered my first voodoo doll and it had a unicorn on it! How did they know???? It was delicious for the eyes and tummy!
On Friday the 24th (my real bday) I woke up and had to get over to the chiropracter. Owen and I were in a small car accident that left the front of the car slightly damaged and my back in a little bit of pain from the impact. So after being adjusted I went to my Friday knitting group to knit and chat! Hazel and Owen showed up after an hour or so and we had lunch, then they went back home and I knitted some more! After Hazel's afternoon nap the three of us went out to dinner to La Hacienda (my favorite Mexican restaurant). We next went to the mall to buy Hazel new shoes and we went to build a bear. Hazel picked out the pink bear and I picked out the outfit. It's name is "rainbow bear", yeah, original I know :) They had a balloon guy out front and he made me a turtle :) Hazel spent some time playing in the play area while we watched from the side.
On Saturday I was up early for Oregon Flock and Fiber! That will be a separate post, with pix later (when I get more time to write), but Owen and Hazel showed up in the afternoon and we had a yummy sheep cake (not sheet cake) that Owen and I made so that I could celebrate with my knitting friends!
On Sunday was OFFF again and I had dinner at Red Robin with my friends from college! It was fun seeing them, but it went so fast, so I don't feel like we got to talk too much :( Hazel loved it because my mom was there doting on her. Outside she showed me the flower she would pick for me if I'd let her.
I am pretty tired from that long weekend and all the celebrating! I will post more pix soon :)

Swallowtail
Swallowtail Shawl by Evelyn Clark
Yarn: Knitpicks Shadow in Snorkel
The only change to the pattern was to use beads instead of making nupps.
Yay, it's done! It took me less than 1 month to finish it and I thought it would take me 2. I really enjoyed working on this, the patterns were simple and did not bore me! Unfortunately, I won't be sporting this, because it's for my mom! I hope that she will be surprised to get a shawl for Christmas for the 2nd year in a row!! I hope she likes it. I think if I make one for myself, I would do the modifier to make it larger by adding more repeats. I found a thread on the swallowtail kal ravelry group that explains how many more repeats to do, and I think it is 19 of the first pattern. This shawl did not take a full skein of yarn, in fact I had a quarter of it left over. I have 2 more skeins of this yarn to make another shawl, maybe I'll do an Aeolian from knitty.

Catching Butterflies
Imagine this: Billions of butterfly shaped confetti exploding a rainbow into the air and then gently fluttering down to the ground, all while Coldplay are playing one of their tunes to thousands of screaming fans.
Well, it's really hard to imagine if you're not there, in the moment and it's happening to you.
I only wish I had been able to go to their concert when they were here this past July. Sadly, I was recovering from a c-section and taking care of my beautiful baby. On the day of the concert I allowed myself to be disappointed, because I really really really wanted to be there myself! The last time they came out to the PNW was in August of 2005 and it was hands down THE BEST concert I have ever been to. U2 comes in second.
I had won VIP tickets from a local radio station by singing "Yellow" with ice cubes in my mouth to an answering machine. I won, because of my "humor" - I had dropped an ice cube on the floor while I was stating my name and phone number and then I said "I just dropped an ice cube on the ground and it is covered in cat hair, and I don't care because I love Coldplay that much!" and I then I put it in my mouth and sang the song. The next day they were going to announce the winner and I got up early so I wouldn't miss their call. I KNEW they would call me and 5 minutes til they announced, my phone rang!! It was my allergist reminding me of my appointment. Darn! I hung up and my phone rang again. It was Nelson and Terry telling me I had won tickets!! I screamed and probably blew their eardrums out! It was so surreal talking to them, I don't know exactly what I said to them because I was so excited and talking a mile a minute. Anyway, the tickets were not far from the stage (wayyyyy better than the seats I had paid for) and we got VIP parking with our own special entrance to the venue. I didn't get to meet Coldplay, but that's ok, I had the best night with my friends and I won't forget that.
I digress.
So, the next best thing to being there in person is knowing someone else who went to one of their concerts and lovingly sent me some butterflies and the free cd they were handing out at the end of the show! Oh, how I squeeeeeed when I opened the package from my friend Carol in the UK who went to not one, but 3 of their concerts this year and was kind enough to send me some goodies!!
Thank you Carol, you made my day!

Thanks Patrice!
This is what came in the mail today, a fun goodie box filled with fun stuff!
Namaste Malibu knitting bag - It is so me, I can't stand it!!!! I'm totally taking it to San Fran with me and I will look very stylish carrying it around, I know already. I can't believe how large it is, it will totally be able to hold my current project and double as a purse!!
A cute Coach bunny key chain - it looks so much like my Pearly girly!! So dang cute, I almost don't want to use it!
A drop spindle made by Dianne's husband. Now I have two spindles in my collection. And as a serendipitous side note, my new Spin-off magazine arrived today as well and on the front cover there is a picture of drop spindles and an article inside about them!
Patrice, you are awesome!

Happy Birthday to me!
If I was a cake, this is what I would look like!
I'm a little late posting, but my 29th birthday was last Wednesday the 24th. I had a fun time at my knit night. My mom surprised me by showing up, that was a shock. I did not expect to see her. The cake was so delicious, even if it dyed my tongue green.
Thanks Susan for arranging the cake, it was a hit!!
