A Walk to Remember

Saturday was the Walk To Remember, a benefit walk for the Alzheimer's Network of Salem. This disease is near to my family. We walked in honor of my grandmother who has Vascular Dementia. Her disease is so advanced that for the past couple of years now she no longer recognizes us as anyone she knows. She has been living in an adult care home in California since my grandfather passed away last year. Moving her to a home was really hard for my family, but she is happy there and gets excellent care. We support the Alzheimer Network for my mom, who leads a respite program for people with Alzheimers. Many of her participants get support from this network. This year our group had about 20 people walking! We all had matching t-shirts (even Hazel got one) which was really neat, because last year there was a mix up and only a few people got shirts. My mom did a great job organizing our team and being a good leader. I think next years walk will be even better!
