Friday Fill-Ins

1. All children alarm their parents, if only because you are forever expecting something to happen to them.

2. Show me a good loser and I will show you a person that can play nicely.

3. Eating a whole costco sized jar of Nutella is like eating an entire box of chocolate liqueurs at one time.

4. Too bad that all the people who know how to run the country are busy screwing around and ruining our lives.

5. I have yet to hear a man ask for advice on how to combine eyeshadow and blush for the perfect natural look.

6. It is impossible to think of any good meal, no matter how plain or elegant, without garlic or onions in it.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to spending the night in the hospital, tomorrow my plans include giving birth and Sunday, I want to spend time bonding with my baby!

spinning goodies

I've been trying to get my bobbins emptied before the baby gets here. I finished 2 skeins!

This is Stitch Jones "Earth Angel" Merino, 134 yards of a worsted weight. I am going to make a pair of fingerless gloves with it. Hoping it will be easy for hospital knitting.

Another Stitch Jones fiber - "Quince Blossom" 130 yards of a heavy fingering weight Baby Alpaca

I found this fiber at Cost Plus World Market (after seeing Carrisa spinning it at WWKIP and Bobbie's blog post on it). Yes, I broke my fiber diet, but I didn't know how long this would stay in the stores, or if I could find it! Who can resist natural hand dyed alpaca from Peru??

I took the Which Ewe are You quiz, this is what it came up with for me:

Thankful Thursday

That the extra pounds of water I'm carrying around will be gone soon! It's no fun having elephant feet, cankles and stumps!

The pedicure I got on Tuesday! I went to Coldwater Creek Spa and had a pampered 1 hour tropical peducure and parafin wax on my hands, it was very relaxing and I totally needed it! Now I have the cutest pink toes painted in OPI's "A Rose at Dawn, Broke by Noon".

WWKIP day - a fun time to knit with my friends and also that the baby did not show up beforehand, so that I could participate! OH and the swag bags, I am loving mine!

For one last day of peace and quiet.

Again for my knitting group friends - this baby is surely going to be kept clothed (and warm)!

Thanks Duffy for this ultra cool rainbow blanket, it's great! And I"m glad you did not inflict red heart on the baby! (Not that I EVER thought you would!)

Gail bought this handmade sweater, but I'll pretend she made it ;)

Robyn crocheted these little booties, they are super soft and cute! The ones on the left are handspun I believe!! How precious they are :)

Last but not least Tami made this cute cute babydoll dress, it totally looks like a bollywood fiesta! I think it goes well with the blanket above!

The stash is eating me!

WWKIP Day re-cap

This year's Worldwide Knit In Public day was way more fun than last year (and I thought last year was fun).

It was held at the Cultural Arts Center in Hillsboro. Tami organized the event this year and she did a phenomenal job! She was able to get 3 LYSs to sponser the event - Kathy's Knit Corner, The Knitting Bee and All About Yarn. Not only was there "door" prizes, but there were these awesome Swag Bags (for the first 40 knitters). At knit night last week we got a preview of the bags and what was in them and I really really wanted to make sure I got one.

Owen and I arrived early to the event to see if there was a need for set up help. Not really because they had it under control, however, I took a roll of tickets for the door prizes and handed them out to people - later I found out that the store had their own people that could have handed out the tickets, but I had fun doing it, so oh well! Owen went and found us some food at the farmer's market and then we all waited until 10am when we could snag our bags! You would not believe how fast the line formed! I was at or near the front and got the coolest bag made by Sara and all this stuff inside:

3 knitting patterns - 2 by Kathleen and 1 by Cindy
3 discount coupons from the above mentioned LYSs
Yarn samples from Stitch Jones, Fearless Fibers, Frog Creek Fibers and Abstract fiber
Fiber sample from The Cupcake Factory
and a Stitch marker from Girly with a twist

Look how nice the bag is inside! There are some pockets to hold needles and also a tab for keys or something

I admit to being a fiber piggy. I traded out my abstract fiber yarn for a cupcake factory sample, and at the end Carissa gave me 2 more! I am excited to try them out, her colors are really pretty!

My mom eventually showed up to the event, but did not get a bag...she didn't believe me when I told her she needed to be there early! OH well.

As for the knitting in public part, I worked on my Cookie A. sock (Sam) from her book Sock Innovation in Nodding Violet colorway from Blue Moon. I actually didn't get much knitting done because I was talking so much to everyone, and as of today I ended up with negative done, because I had to rip it all back to the cuff from messing up the cables so much. When will I learn that I need to have a plain pattern to work on when I'm going to be talking a lot???

There was an unofficial yarn swap going on where if you brought yarn you could take something from the pile. I brought in a few odd balls of stuff I knew I wouldn't use, and the remnants of some past projects. I walked away with two cones of a purple glitzy yarn to use in core spinning.

The door prizes were pretty good this year - lots of yarn and books. I won a Rowan pattern book, that was cool!

For lunch Owen went and got us some pizza from the farmers' market. And sadly, at 2pm we all had to leave (due to a wedding).

I didn't actually take pictures at the event, because I was not thinking, but you can check some out at Cindy's blog, I might even be in a few!

Even though I'm on a "fiber diet" I couldn't resist a few sample baggies of fiber - I got a bamboo and a fiber made from milk! Cool! Both are from the cupcake factory.

Thankful Thursday

Owen - for taking a Confident Dads class, makes me feel so much better that he is more prepared than I am!

Infant care class - for making me feel confident that I can trust my own instincts to take care of the baby when she gets here

Kinkos - for making a couple of my knitting books (Cookie A.'s book and Estonian Lace) spiral bound so they are easier to use! For 4.99 (each) it's totally worth it!!

Tums - I couldn't have lasted this last week without it. For some reason my terrible heart burn came back after a few months hiatus!

Rockabye Baby! - for making great lullaby cds out of my favorite artists' music - my baby is going to get a good start on awesome music from Coldplay, Radiohead, the Beatles and more!

I made this one for Owen, he picked out the fabrics! Look, it totally matches Ernie!

Diaper Bag

I found this diaper bag at a local boutique and decided that it was perfect for me! It has a laminated exterior, many pockets on the interior, a flap to hold it all in, and it can go over the stroller handles. I really like how it doesn't look like a diaper bag!! It was kind of expensive, but considering I"m going to use this as a purse and carrying it around every day for who knows how long, I think it is worth it!

Journaling

Working on writing profound things in the baby's book.

Friday Fill-Ins

1. I saved us about $150 on our home heating bill because I was creating my own heat source this winter.

2. My favorite thing for dinner lately has been these veggie patties from Costco that taste like Thanksgiving stuffing. I've also been craving pizza.

3. Meow! Meow! Meow! bark! bark! bark!

4. A nice long walk is what I should be taking right now, since I just ate some french fries at Red Robin.

5. My amniotic fluid has gone down so that is some good news. It means that my sugar levels are being maintained.

6. When all is said and done, I hope all this stuff we got for the baby will be used.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to grocery shopping, tomorrow my plans include an infant care class in the morning and Sunday, I want to go to the spinning meeting downtown!

Thankful Thursday

A new shower head - I swear, I feel cleaner after just one shower! This thing has some awesome pressure!

Baby Kimono - yay, it brought back my knitting mojo :)

USPS - for getting my aunt's bday present to Hawaii ON HER BDAY! Amazing!!

My sewing machine - for being awesome!

My knitting friends for taking the time out of their knitting lives to make my baby the cutest outfits to wear!

Cindy made this adorable dress! Not seen in the photo are some Peter Rabbit buttons on the shoulder. Even the inside of this dress is pretty!

Bobbie saved me from the countless rows of garter stitching for a Baby Surprise Jacket! The buttons she picked out match so well too! I really like the i-cord loops, very smart!

Judy Made this awesome jacket and booties set! I love the colors!!
