Friday Fill-Ins

1. Apparently there's some sort of misunderstanding - frogs and turtles are not the same thing, frogs are amphibians and turtles are reptiles!

2. We went for a walk around Summer Lake this afternoon and enjoyed the sunny day.

3. 2009 is turning out pretty good so far.

4. I felt the malabrigo sock yarn today that was it.

5. For too long I've been stressed out about too many things.

6. I am not obsessed with Twilight; I am not!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to relaxing, tomorrow my plans include working in the garage and Sunday, I want to get together with my mom or something!

Thankful Thursday

A little late!

Tami - for keeping the yarn shop open just a few minutes longer so that I could pick out some yarn for a couple of projects and use a coupon!!

The weather - it has been so nice this week I feel like we've won the lottery! We've been able to go on walks in the evenings and it's still light out, only a slight chill from the wind, but I'm not complaining!

Sidewalk Chalk - it's great for keeping a 3 year old entertained for 20 minutes!

Sara - for going to the Button Emporium with me - we helped each other pick out buttons for our February Lady sweaters!

Pita Pit - for having a healthy food product so that I can eat out and not have negative effects on my blood sugar!

Happy Anniversary!

7 years ago, Owen and I got married! That is so hard for me to believe, because it doesn't feel like that many years ago. Now, we're going to be having a baby and starting another chapter in our lives!

Love you hunny!

Hug Point

Yesterday the weather here was so beautiful, we decided to drive over to the coast! We had a picnic lunch in Seaside. Then we went to Cannon Beach to go to Coastal Yarns, only to find out they weren't there anymore (later, I looked them up online and they had moved one block over, however they couldn't be bothered to put a sign on the door, UGH!!). CB was so crowded, we drove down the coast a little further to a small beach called Hug Point. It was not very crowded, and there was just enough wind for Owen to fly his kite, but not make it so the sand was blowing everywhere. I sat on my blanket and worked on my February Lady sweater. For dinner we stopped in Astoria at the Fred Meyer and got a few things to make sandwhiches, then we headed home.

Turtley toy goodness!

Found these toys at a huge baby stuff sale at the Fairgrounds!

This is a pull toy that also has lights and plays music.

This one, you push the head down and the balls spin around on the inside, it also plays music.

Just a little rattle.

This is a wrist rattle that was a set with the other one.

I also scored a Glider Chair + Ottoman for only $57.00. I will post pics once Owen gets it out of the car!

Thankful Thursday

A supportive husband - he is helping me figure out diet stuff and what proportions of things that I can eat for my carb choices. And he is helping out in the kitchen more because the foods are a lot simpler to prepare.

A supportive dietition - she helped me see that GD is not the end of the world, and that I can get through it. Also, she called me on Tuesday to see how everything was going for me and I know that I can call her at any time.

Supportive friends - Thanks to my knit night friends for letting me talk out all of the GD stuff that went on this week, it was so helpful for me to get advice from everyone and to know I'm not alone!

Activia yogurt - finally, a yogurt that doesn't taste all splenda-y and gross!

Playing with needles!

After 3 trips to Walgreens, I finally picked up all of my Gestational Diabetes testing supplies. I had my training on how to check my blood sugar levels and give myself insulin injections. The needles do not hurt as much as my brain thinks they should. And poking my finger doesn't hurt at all! Check it out, I even get one of those cool needle disposal containers!!

I decided that the world isn't going to end over this whole mess. Even though I thought it would on Friday. I guess it will just take some getting used to this new schedule of eating every 2-3 hours and planning out meals ahead of time. I have to test myself 5 times a day and give myself insulin 2 times a day. I also have to calculate out all the carbs I'm eating, and I have to keep a food journal which makes it a little less tempting to eat something sweet...

And just so this post doesn't scare young children, here is a cute picture of Pearl eating a yarn label. She seems to love Misti Alpaca as much as I do!

Easter

Owen's grandmother always has such a pretty tablescape!

Check it out, bunny bread from Great Harvest! I have a thing for animal shaped bread apparently :)

My egg was the grand champion in the Polish egg cracking game. It beat out everyone elses eggs (both ends of 5 eggs, except one end of mine cracked at the end, but I flipped it over and beat the egg that cracked mine)

I feel like I was thrown under a bus today

Today is probably one of my worst days in the last year and I feel like I was thrown under a bus.

I went to a perinatologist for a check up on my asthma. I think my midwife was concerned that I would have an asthma attack during delivery and thought I should see a specialist. So far it is well controlled with the medication I am on, so there is no problem there. However, the dr. took it upon himself to check my 3 hour glucose test results and my day got worse from there. I would much rather have heard that I have GD from my midwife, but no, I got this guy doctor who's bedside manner left something to be desired. His nurse was really nice though, but not enough to make up for his lack of sensitivity.

My day is kind of a whirlwind after that, because then I had to make a bunch of appointments to start insulin shots and blood testing and follow up appointments. Then to make it worse the nurse called during dinner and left a message that I needed to pick up my insulin testing stuff from Walgreens before my Monday appointment and she was adament that I do this. However, about an hour later Walgreens called me and wanted to know what machine I would be using. How the hell would I know??? I tried calling the dr.s office and of course no one is around except an ass-facey on-call dr. who's Friday night I apparently ruined and he couldn't help me anyway. Needless to say, I have not cried this much since my cat George died and all I want to do is stay under the covers and sleep it away. Which I did, as soon as I got home from dinner I slept for about 4 hours. Now I'm all groggy and my eyes are swollen :(

Friday Fill-Ins

1. Anonymous...people are cowards.

2. Easter is a favorite holiday of mine, because at Owen's grandma's we play a Polish game where each person gets a hard boiled egg and we hit each other's eggs until they break! It's fun.

3. Let me embrace thee, sour adversity, for wise men say it is the wisest course. ~William Shakespeare (sorry, I had to look this one up because I had no clue what to put down).

4. All the pretty flowers popping up and baby animals is what I look forward to most about Spring.

5. Who needs therapy when you have a cat.

6. Cadburry Cream Eggs and Lindt sheep MUST go into the Easter Basket!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to dinner with my friends, tomorrow my plans include spinning at spinnerati and Sunday, I want to have lunch with Owen's family for Easter!

Happy Easter to those that celebrate it!

Thankful Thursday

Nice Weekend!

This was such a great weekend. It's the first in a long while where neither of us made plans to go anywhere! Saturday we went to Les Schwab and had a tire and battery replaced on our 2nd car all under warranty wahoo! We also went to Jo-Anns where I got a wooden "plaque" that I'm going to make a baby's room sign for the nursery. Then to Lowes for some misc stuff like a curtain rod, some garden soil and other small stuff I cannot remember. Then last night we put together Owen's birthday present from last year, it's a windmill for the back yard. We totally have an authentic farm now with the windmill :) We also worked on getting the curtains up in the nursery. I actually ironed them!! We still need to hem the curtains so they aren't all the way down to the floor.

Today my mom drove up to spend the afternoon with us. We went to Costco, P.F. Changs, Craft Warehouse and Trader Joes. All very exciting!! My mom spent about an hour sprucing up my front door wreath, because it was embarrassingly shabby looking.

The weather these past two days has been so wonderful. I opened up all the windows in the house to air it out and getting the extra vitamin D has been awesome! I think everyone's mood picked up this weekend :)

Here I am at 28 weeks! Tomorrow I have a midwife appt and they are screening for Gestational Diabetes. I have to drink a super sweet "cola" drink and then have a blood draw to check my blood sugar. I also get a Rhogam shot, because Owen is O+ and I am an O- blood type.

Owen wanted to make sure everyone could see the baby!

The wreath my mom made for the door :)

Friday Fill-Ins

1. Angel or not, I will lay in the snow and make some sort of shape.

2. You cannot have me any way you want me.

3. As my mother-in-law used to say, you're full of beans.

4. I always get sore after I'm done working out or doing something strenuous.

5. Even in the most crowded of rooms I can usually find Owen.

6. 9/11 is a day fraught with peril.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to going to the mall and to Borders, tomorrow my plans include getting out and enjoying the nice weather and Sunday, I want to arrange furniture in the nursery!

Thankful Thursday

Staggard store closings - so we can go to Costco, Trader Joes and Target in one evening and make it before each one closes!

Tums - because the heartburn sucks without them!

My thoughtful husband - he brought me home a chocolate cupcake from Cupcake Jones today!!

Rebecca - She posted a recipe for no rise pizza dough and I made it tonight, delicious and easy!

Knitting friends - for helping me figure out sweater construction. Thanks Bobbie and Sara

Trends for Spring 2009

Last Saturday I spent the morning with some girlfriends at the Nordstrom Spring Trend Event! If there is a spring or fall event in your area, they are totally worth going to!! You always get a free tote bag that sometimes has samples in it, the counters usually have a gift with purchase, there are door prizes and it's fun to hang out with your friends!! There are so many tips about makeup application that you can pick up, but all of the counters do make overs and consultations on skin care etc.

A few things that are trends for this spring:

Spring is all about bronze, eyeliner and saving time!

When applying bronzer use the "3" shape - use the biggest fluffiest brush you have and go from your forehead, around your eyes and around to the jaw line in a "3".

Bright lips are in! Use a lipstick or a gloss to get some color on your lips!

Metallics are still in, but they are an uptown meets downtown look - using metallics with soft pink cheeks and defined eyes

Save time with your makeup by having a good skin care routine. The smoother your skin the easier it is to apply makeup. Products they recommend - Clarsonic, Philosophy peels and Primers.

Colored eyeliner is in - it's not about black and brown anymore. Spice it up with blues and greens!!

Hot guys are also in!

This guy works for Dior

And this is Hank from Smashbox - it's always exciting when he comes out on the stage. His arms are as large as my waist!!
